People are finding things difficult right now. The two years of the pandemic were hard and many wonder if we have opened to soon. There has been division in the country. Pro vaccine, anti vaccine, pro convoy, anti convoy. Inflation is running at 30 year highs. The war in the Ukraine is now a month old and many more lives will be lost. Life has been hard.
However it is not the first time life has been hard. Last century just remember how the world endured four long years of World War I , only to be followed by the Spanish flu which lasted two years and then the Great Depression followed just a few years later. That would have been hard for a whole generation of people.
I think back to the first pioneers who came to our country. Imagine starting life anew in a place that had absolutely nothing, breaking soil that had never been broken, dealing with our weather which is so much more unpredictable then Europe's climate. That would have difficult.
Imagine living during the time of the Black Death in the Middle Ages. A quarter of the population died in a few years. That would mean in Canada, nearly 9.5 million people would have lost their lives in a few short years. That was awful.
Imagine being Jewish person in Europe in the 1930's and 40's. You would be hated for what you believed in and your heritage. Imagine having to go into hiding. Losing all of your businesses and wealth. Or being sent out to a concentration camp to be gassed.
Imagine being Japanese in Canada during World War II. Many of the people sent to Internment camps had been born in Canada. Yet because of their heritage they were sent away miles from their homes.
Life is hard right now. No doubt about it. I am sure there will be few people who will think fondly back to the early years of the 2020's decade. Yet we have gone through tough times before. And like before I am sure we can rise again. Blessings.
